In September 2006 the Into Africa Planning Committee took a decision to introduce a Sustainable Development Program (SDP) to strengthen the Village Church Planting efforts in Africa. We have collaborated with Africa Co-operative Action Trust (ACAT) in designing our program.

The overall purpose is to use entrepreneurship as a means of enabling disadvantaged rural families to overcome poverty in a sustainable way and to influence and assist others to achieve the same.  This involves:

  • Facilitating entrepreneurial development
  • Stimulating local economic activity
  • Promoting and teaching sustainable business and development practices

The short and long-term objectives are to provide active disadvantaged rural families with the opportunities, passion and capacity to achieve, and influence others to:

  • Be members of sustainable community structures
  • Achieve self reliance and sustain an ever-improving quality of life, including the reconstruction of families
  • Address the causes of povertyPhoto
  • Benefit from home food security
  • Own a profitable business that will serve as a role model
  • Be aware of, understand, and actively address the HIV and AIDS pandemic with a special focus on causes, symptoms, transmission, avoidance, stigma, alternate lifestyle, management of the virus and the provision of community-based support and care

The strategies to achieve these objectives are:

  • Identify the target group and form groups of five
  • Promote, teach and facilitate household food security
  • Stimulate economic activities and establish profitable small businesses
  • Identify and equip community volunteers to assist in implementing the program
  • Promote and facilitate the establishment of sustainable community structures
